Sheriff Paul C. May has released the following information:

RE:  Local Man Arrested in an “On-Line” Predator sting


On November 5, 2011, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office in reference to assistance. Detective M.D. Faulkner made contact with Hardee County detectives and learned an Okeechobee County resident had been arrested by the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office. According to information received, the suspect used the computer to meet and make arrangements with an undercover officer posing as a fifteen year old female.  The suspect allegedly went to the prearranged location in Hardee County to meet the victim. Condoms were found in his pocket.


Alvin L. Thompson was charged with one count-Obscene Communication-Use of Computer to Seduce and/or Solicit a Child for Sex, a third degree felony and one count-Obscene Communication-Travel to Meet a Minor to Engage in Sexual Activity, a second degree felony. He was released on $10,000.00 bond on November 5, 2011.


Detective Faulkner obtained a search warrant for Thompson’s residence. Upon execution of the search warrant, a laptop computer was taken into evidence.
