Sheriff Paul C. May has released the following information: Re: Store Owner Arrested On January 4, 2012, the owner of a local business was arrested for Conducting Business as a Pawnbroker Without a License. According to an arrest affidavit filed by Detective M.D. Faulkner, while working a case of jewelry theft, Detective Faulkner discovered that the stolen jewelry had been purchased by the owner of the Azteca Store, 619 NE Park Street, Okeechobee, Florida. Moutaz Abdulah Yamin would purchase gold from customers and then sell the jewelry in Miami. Prior to this investigation, Yamin had been previously warned about dealing in gold and conducting business as a pawnbroker. Yamin does not possess a license to conduct such business. He failed to maintain records of his purchases, which adds reason that he knew he was buying gold and other items illegally and knew the property must have been stolen.
Yamin was booked into the Okeechobee County Jail and later released on $5000.00 bond.
No further information to be released at this time.
