Sheriff Paul C. May has released the following information: Re: Pill Round-Up Members of the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit, Okeechobee City Police Department, Glades County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement(FDLE) and Drug Enforcement Agency(DEA) conducted an intense, round-up removing drug dealers from the streets of Okeechobee County. As a result of their efforts, 9 individuals have been booked at the Okeechobee County Jail and they are now facing a cumulative total of (19) FELONY charges. This investigation began approximately five months ago targeting drug dealers in Okeechobee County. The investigation involved undercover officers conducting buys of controlled substances. Arrested as a result of this investigation:
Sheriff Paul C. May said of the arrests, “Today in Okeechobee County and Glades County, a five month long operation, “Operation Pill Crusher”, was brought to an end by the issuance of warrants for (11) people with a total of (22) felony charges, including Sale, Trafficking and Possession of Controlled Substances. Eight people are currently in custody and the other three are not far behind. These are the people who actually sell to anyone who has the money to pay, including our children. Myself and Glades County Sheriff Whiddon hope they get the full effect of the Law. We thank FDLE and DEA for their assistance. This is still a continuing investigation.
